Blood Tests

Several times during your pregnancy, you'll be asked to give blood so that the lab can run some tests.

Your blood will be tested to find out your blood type and to see if you are anemic, which could reduce the amount of oxygen in your bloodstream. The blood test will also make sure that you’re not prone to develop conditions like gestational diabetes or anemia.

Testing your blood can also determine whether you are immune to rubella, and whether you have been exposed to hepatitis B or syphilis. With your consent, your blood can also be tested for HIV. Any of these infections could influence the development and growth of your baby. Early diagnosis and treatment of any of these conditions is key to minimizing your baby’s risk.
